Part of Haringey's Real Rebels

Hornsey College of Art Sit-in 1968

I'll be championing the Hornsey College of Art sit-in of 1968 — telling the story of what happened. A great example of Haringey rebels, it also highlights the association between art and anarchy.

Why and how was Haringey involved? In a less than positive way! One example of rebellion they probably don't want to talk about.

I'll be collecting personal accounts from those that were there and from locals, and diving into the archives at Middlesex University.

Outcomes

  • A talk (I've done two before) at Coleridge School — the original main campus for Hornsey College of Art, and where the main sit-in was — with guests.
  • An exhibition with HHS, with video and personal accounts.
  • Coleridge School are recreating the famous lino-cut graphics of the period, but with a modern theme.

This will also be part of the 2027 Crouch End Festival celebrations.
